Auto-Jet™ is a self-cleaning pressure leaf filter designed for efficient filtration in the most severe applications.

Overview

Engineered for filtration efficiency, Auto-Jet features uniform leaf construction for leaf interchangeability and to provide uniform precoating, filtration and cake buildup. Its efficient sluicing system ensures thorough cleaning of every square inch of filter surface area in each cycle.

How does Auto-Jet™ work?

Integral to the Auto-Jet’s superior filtration capability is its patented sluicing system incorporating specially-designed jets. As the filter leaves rotate, flat, knife-like jets of cleaning liquid quickly strip away the heaviest cake and scrub the entire surface area. Using only a fraction of the cleaning liquid required by other types of filters, Auto-Jet completely cleans the filter surface area in three minutes or less.

The Auto-Jet filter inlet and adjustable baffling are carefully engineered to team with the leaf design for better filtration.

It routinely operates with inlet solids concentrations of up to 200 mg/l while delivering effluents with particles not exceeding 0.5 micron.

Auto-Jet is the filter of choice in many segments of the food and beverage industry such as beer, sugar, gelatin, sweeteners and edible oil production. Auto-Jet is also widely used in the mining industry for the recovery of precious metals in the Merrill-Crowe process, in the battery recycling process as well as in the chemical industry

Features and benefits

With flexible designs and standard sizing options - adapted for conical, double conical, or deep V-shaped bottom channel operations ranging from 50 to 2000 ft2 of filtering surface area - Auto-Jet offers a wide choice of construction materials, including rubber or plastic-lined steel, stainless, monel, nickel, Hastelloy™, and other exotic metals.

  • Superior filtration: deep-cleaning of leaves yields longer filtration cycles, thicker cake and better filtrate quality  (filters particle size down to 1-micron)
  • Deep self-cleaning capability: combined scrubbing action of powerful water jets and rotating leaves completely strips the cake away
  • Easy inspection and service: full automation capabilities and an engineered sluice manifold allows its complete removal without removing filter leaves
  • Effective pre-coating procedures: uniform cake distribution on both side of leaves
  • Auto-Lok closure and sealing system: ensuring leak-proof, pressure-tight operations
  • Higher flux rates and smaller footprint:  compared to fixed-leaf designs
  • Increased efficiency with lower capital and operating costs: compared to membranes systems likely to foul and fail

Precoat Filtration is a proven, reliable and very effective way to remove suspended solids from a liquid stream. The technology was invented in the 1920s and has withstood the test of time. Currently the same technology is being used around the world making it a preferred separation technology for some applications.

FAQ about Auto-Jet™

What is precoat filtration?

Invented in the 1920s, precoat filtration is applied to remove suspended solids from a liquid to a stream. Precoat filtration is applied when liquid needs to be finely polished, as this efficient technique allows the retention of very small particles up to half a micron, 1 ppm range without affecting the quality of the product being filtered.

How does a precoat filter work?

Precoat creates a permeable layer on top of the wire or the cloth screen of the leaves allowing water to go through while filtering out the solids.

What are the different types of filter aids used in precoat filtration?

  • Diatomaceous earth
  • Perlite
  • Cellulose

These materials are commonly used because their microscopic structure allows for highly efficient caking on the filter leaf. This caking allows for even coverage on the leaf and contributes to the increased solids removal performance of precoat filtration.

Case Studies

Mexico
La Herradura mine - Mining

La Herradura Mine, Mexico, needed a compact and easy-to-maintain technology for filtering the pregnant leach solution treated by the Merrill-Crowe process. An Auto-Jet system was installed at the ore processing plant, to remove particles and impurities from liquid streams, enhancing the site’s filtration capacities.

Indonesia
Gosowong gold processing plant - Mining

The Gosowong Gold Processing Plant, in Indonesia, uses a single process plant for all of its mining operations. The plant consists of three Auto-Jet systems that treat the pregnant leach solutions from the Merrill-Crowe process. The operator, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, purchased an additional Auto-Jet system in order to expand the capacity of the plant.

Papua New Guinea
Hidden Valley gold project - Mining

The Hidden Valley Gold Project, Papua New Guinea, likewise employs two Auto-Jet systems to maximize productivity in the Merrill-Crowe process. The filters treat up to 136 m3 /h of high-purity filtered gold liquor, by separating solid impurities from the pregnant cyanide solution.
